When you hear that your friend has never seen Back to the Future, of course you feel perplexed, maybe even concerned.
But after recently discovering that Enron had also never seen Indiana Jones, YHC began to wonder if he was raised in some Amish sect that allowed most modern luxuries, but shunned 80s movies.
Of course, this quickly turned to a realization that these circumstances were a weakness to be exploited.
So YHC created a specific set of questions just for him.
I had to incentivize the PAX to not help, so I made sure we’d be better off if he got the questions wrong. Scoring went like this, as we cycled through the questions:
1. correct: PAX do 5 burpees, HIM does 5 merkins
Incorrect: all do 3 burpees
2. correct: PAX flying nun, HIM Carioca
Incorrect: all lunge walk
3. correct: PAX do 5 Manmakers , HIM does 5 burpees
Incorrect: all do 3 Manmakers
4. correct: PAX murder bunny, HIM Nur
Incorrect: all bear crawl
5. Correct: undisclosed
(All do 50 curls regardless)
6. correct: PAX do 10 WW3 situps, HIM does 10 WWI situps
Incorrect: all do 15 BBS
7. correct: PAX murder bunny, HIM Nur
Incorrect: all bear crawl
8. Correct: undisclosed
(All do 20 5 count neg. curls regardless)
9. correct: PAX do 10 thrusters , HIM 10 squats
Incorrect: all do 15 goblet squats
Of course, I wasn’t sure Enron would post this morning, so I just had to come up with a set of questions for each HIM in our PAX.
But when I pulled in and saw that King Ranch, I knew it was serendipity. Today was also Michael J. Fox’s birthday.
Enron’s set of questions were simple: is the quote from Back to the Future? Or from Indiana Jones?
And the Short Round of questions was:
(Someone please explain that to Enron)
1. I don’t know where we’re going, but it sure as hell ain’t 1939!
2. “The Libyans!”
3. “Manure! I hate manure!”
4. “Snakes. Why’d it have to be snakes?”
5. “Nobody calls me chicken!”
6. “Calvin? Why do you keep calling me Calvin?”
7. Don’t call me Junior!
8. “It’s not the years, honey, it’s the mileage.”
9. “Fissures in time? … You can’t prove that!”
10. “Nothing shocks me. I’m a scientist.”
11. “[To his father] I was just remembering the last time we had a quiet drink together. I had a milkshake.”
12. “If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.”
Enron started off very poorly (as would be expected), but, eventually figuring out they were mostly trick questions, probably ended up better than 50% correct by just going with the opposite of his instinct.
With quite a bit of time left, YHC was glad I over-prepared and had questions for others…
We’ve probably all noticed Goose has been very vocal regarding one particular ethnic group, especially when it comes to their connection to the media. I’m speaking of course of the Irish, and their folk music which has infiltrated at least 2 recent feature films.
Twice recently YHC has opined (in a generic Gaelic accent), “Irish, Scottish, what’s the difference?”
(The second time was purely to get Goose’s… goose?)
Anyway, as a self-professed Scotch-Irish, YHC decided it was time to play everyone’s favorite game show,
“Hey Goose, Is It Irish??”
The exercises were the same.
And the questions were:
1. Guinness (yes, and Goose got it right)
2. Danny Boy (Goose said yes, but alas, was written by an English)
3. CS Lewis (I wasn’t sure how I was gonna score an answer for CS Lewis as he was both English and Irish. Luckily Goose made it easy by confidently stating “he’s a Scot.”)
4. Glen (Irish and Scottish, credit given)
5. Shamrock (although the rationale made sense— “St Patrick was British, so a shamrock is not Irish” Goose was incorrect)
6. Irish Spring Soap (I thought hearing Goose talking himself into a shamrock not being Irish was good, but how much better it was to hear him rationalize that Irish Spring soap is probably Irish! (It is not even sold in Ireland). )
7. Irish Setter (again tricked by the “it’s so obvious it must be a trick” trick where it is not actually a trick … the dog’s a Mick)
Relax… it’s ok if we say it (I think?)
This was the end of the prepared questions, so YHC ad libbed a curve ball (the lucky black cat from the movie Luck), and a soft ball (the family from So I Married an Axe Murderer). Both were Scottish, but really, what’s the difference?
COT
Thanks as always for coming out for the ridiculousness.
SYITG,
AB
