Long ago I heard Enron chatter. “You know, Saturdays are supposed to be fun.”

I hadn’t thought about that in a while, but when Honeysuckle revived a prior Saturday beatdown that was not fun (for me), it came back to mind. Because HS felt too many of our beatdowns had a running component that was basically the rest/easy part, Honeysuckle had devised a beatdown where the running was the difficult part and the exercises were the resting part.
If you are someone who loves to run, it was genius. If you are not (like YHC) it was diabolical.
And he made some of us do it twice.
But then, after he overheard me echo Enron’s maxim “Saturdays are supposed to be fun”YHC realized that fun is subjective.

So since it was my 3-year Manniversary, I planned subjective fun- we would just play soccer.
Only 4 men showed up that morning – Safety Valve, Roxbury, Wet Tap, and YHC.

Valve filed in, feigning disinterest, “oh, you really are wearing cleats?” And before I answered he’d already been back to his truck and laced up.

Warmarama and then trivia, mostly World Cup related, with mountain climber merkins as motiviation. Valve surprised everyone, improving on his previous trivia record of 0.0% by answering every question correctly.
With only 4 of us, teams were easy to split – one pair of cleats on each team. Team >50 vs Team <40.
First team to 3 wins.
But it can’t be all fun:
After each game, we did with a set of 7s: each team got to chose their exercises and MOT front the front of the referee box. Winning team got to pick first.
It was the not as fun part. Except for Wet Tap.

After we’d exhausted the list, it was time to finish up with penalty kicks, misses resulted in burpees, goals got merkins.

Finally we had to account for all the mountain climber merkins we were supposed to do. But someone hit the crossbar which cancelled them all out. Fun.
