In a highly unusual situation, the Nantaan, AO Q, and Goose all agreed that the Saturday start time for this day only could be changed from 6:30AM to 6:00AM. This was to accommodate YHC’s request to get done early and help to set up for the Max Kolbe retreat. The logic was, not many people were probably going to show up anyway. My, how the turntables have turned.

Turns out, Thibodaux was quite busy that day in general. There was a swim meet and the Mud Bug Boil Off as well. So either we have nothing to do, or everything is on the same day. But this led into the theme for the day.

After warmarama, the first thang was to work on our core. Typically, when we exercise, our “Mary” (seven minute abs) is at the end when we have time. That can often be the case about our spiritual lives, and the Max Kolbe men’s retreat was meant to be a way to prioritize God, who should be at our core. As my M is a Pilates instructor, she often says when we strengthen our core, it helps everything else. So she wrote out a list of core exercises for us to do that morning, and the PAX remained in the warmarama circle and went through them pretty well.

We then moved to the “lower fields” as Goose often calls them for some reason, where we celebrated the swim meet. The PAX were to do several individual medleys, with YHC providing two MOTs for the southward transport, and the northward transport was freestyle MOT. The below list is approximate but should give you the idea

1) Bear crawl; lunge walk
2) Lunge walk, Groucho walk (?) w/ squat each step
3) Merkin & hop or step; or burpee broad jump; lunge walk
4) Inchworm & bear crawl

Finally, the PAX visited the playground and the monkey bars in particular. For the Mud Bug Boil Off, to peel the crawfish you need a lot of grip strength. Given the unexpected but awesome showing, we had to break into 2 groups. An EMOM timer was started and group 1 did a deadhang from somewhere. Group 2 did air squats. The goal was for the hanging group to reach a minute. Roxbury tells us that is an important marker of strength and longevity (fear the VQ). If they had to drop, they did burpees until the minute was up. We did 2 rounds of this each before returning to the flag.

At this point YHC realized that we hadn’t reached 45 minutes, though was impressed with himself for fitting a 1 hour workout that was supposed to take 45 minutes into 42 minutes. However, with the retreat prep looming and namearama still to come, the timing was good enough. Choupic was named (multisport athlete who likes fishing) as well as A/C (likes to be inside). Two strong 2.0s to add to the crew.

Safety Valve prayed us out.

Thanks to all for showing up to the non-standard start time (which worked better for many people, just saying) and for all the Pax who went to the retreat and who had the retreat in their prayers. Thankful to be a part of this group.

SYITG,
Honeysuckle
