Maybe it’s Americana. Maybe it’s singer-songwriter heavy banjo, Panera bread artisanal Hillbilly mountain folk-rock revival.
Since beatdown immemorial YHC invariably has heard Paradox mumble, “What is this? Little Lion Man?” Or “So is this Mumford & Sons or what?”
Even steadfast fans with suspenders and handlebar mustaches don’t mention the band as often as Dox does.
So in the same format of the Enron quiz, “Is it Back to the Future, or is it Indiana Jones,” and the Goose trials of “Is It Irish?” YHC developed:
Is it Mumford & Sons?
Following standard warmarama, the thang:
A song was played. To the untrained ear, it might sound like it could be Mumford and Sons. While it played, the PAX would complete a series of exercises:
Set 1
• 7 Burpees
• 20 Air Squats
• 20 Mountain Climbers
• 15 BBS
• 25 Merkins
• 40 Curls
Set 2
• 10 Carolina Dry Docks
• 20 Apollo Ohnos
• 40 Curls
• 15 Bonnie Blairs
• 15 WW3 Sit-Ups
• 10 Goblet Squats
Set 3
• 10 Thrusters
• 20 Wheezy Jeffersons
• 40 Curls
• 15 Derkins
• 5 Manmakers
After each set, the music stopped, and Paradox was asked, “Is it Mumford and Sons?”
A correct answer resulted in an easy MOT for Paradox (Imperial walking, sprint, rifle carry, farmer carry, mosey), and a difficult MOT (murder bunny, block and bear, dragon walk, double tap lunge walk, redrum bunny, Lt Dan) for the rest of the PAX.
An incorrect answer resulted in Paradox and the rest of the PAX completing a moderately difficult MOT (Bear Crawl, Flying Nun, toy soldiers, crab walk, grocery carry, lunge walk) together. The aim was for the PAX to root against Dox, and thus resist the urge to answer or give him any hints.
To fortify this, punishments would be given for anyone accidentally giving Paradox a leg up or a hint…
At first YHC was concerned that the only member of the PAX who typically would not be able to keep his comments to himself was also the subject of this experiment. Luckily TeraVanilli filled that void; his asides, laughs, scoffs, and even coughs and farts were considered clues, and therefore could be weaponized into burpees
The results were better than expected. Paradox was unable to identify any Mumford & Sons song (granted there were only two songs that were actually Mumford & Sons). He was also tricked into thinking that a few other bands were Mumford & Sons.
